January 2024

January 2024 Newsletter!

Ahhhh! It's 2024! That's. . . honestly just crazy. 2023 just flew by, and I'm so excited for this year! We'll see where God takes us all <3.

My writing has been a lot better than usual. School honestly slowed it down a lot because it's extremely stressful for me and that usually slows down or puts a halt to my writing. So, it's been quite good this past month!

I've been a lot less stressed, and I've allowed myself to do nothing, which has been great for my mental health. That severely decreased my productivity, but we won't talk about that. πŸ˜‚

Something that I haven't done but I do want to do in the next month is bake some bread. I've never done it before, and it sounds fun. It also, however, sounds hard, so if you have any tips, please reply and let me know because I can use all the help I can get. xD

Anyway, I'll let y'all know if I make the bread this month! And if I do make it, I'll include a picture so you all can judge how it turned out. xD

I listened to a lot of Christmas music this past month, but I'm going to assume that you've heard all of them because they're all common, so my music recs will not be Christmas-themed xD

  • Promise (feat. Ashley Alisha) by Dept and Ashley Alisha | This one is soo good. This sounds weird but the voices in the song soothe me, so that's why I like it. It might not soothe you, but if it does, let me know. πŸ˜‚
  • 3D Print by Tape Machines and Jowen |Not going to lie, the whole concept of 3D printing someone is kind of creepy, but we'll let it slide because it's a love song and it's cute. 😁
  • you were good to me by Jeremy Zucker and Chelsea Cutler | I was doing some homework with a playlist running on YouTube and this song came up. This one, I loved right away, and I really love Jeremy Zucker, so it was perfect. Actually, 3D Print was also on this same playlist xDD

Ahhh! If you've noticed a difference in the title of this section, good job. While patting yourself on the back, you may be asking, 'Who is Kiran?' To put it briefly, we're close friends, but also both writers who both have email lists. Andddd we're doing an Email List Swap! (You can subscribe to her email list here!)

Here is Kiran's part of this email, from her bookshelf, in which she talks about 'How my favourite books impacted me'.

Words have always fascinated me.

In the memories of my earliest years, they were always there. The books my mom read to me brought so much excitement and happiness, and I set on devouring them on my own as fast as I could.

Stories became my life, whether I was reading a book and seeing the adventures play on the pages before me, or whether I was the one conjuring them into the air from something as simple as a piece of notebook paper. At first, they were just entertaining little things that I enjoyed as a favorite pastime, but soon, they became much more.

As I grew older, I became friendless and even bullied in a lot of social circles I was in. Little me didn’t know why the kids ignored her or made fun of her, and became quiet and reclusive in return.

That’s when I returned to her stories.

At lunchtimes, when I was all alone, I would hide a book on my lap and forget about all the other, β€˜cooler’ kids sitting at their own tables. When I was wondering if I had a friend in the world, I would turn to my bookshelves and become companions with the characters there instead.

The characters became my favorite people, the quirky fantasy worlds became my home. For a moment, I wasn’t the dorky, shy kid who always sat by herself. I was Leeli Wingfeather, playing her whistleharp to fend off the Fangs, or Penelope Lumely, flying in a hot air balloon over Germany.

They taught me important, life-changing lessons, gave me role models that I looked up to, and pushed me towards adventures I’d never get to live in real life. Slowly, I became bolder and bolder, taking after the main characters I had read so much about. I overcame my fears and started standing up to the kids who hurt me, and actually began to make friends again.

I was notorious for staying up into the late hours of the night, or rather, early hours of the morning, rereading my favorites over and over. The pages were my shield from the outside forces of the world, and I loved it. Treasured it.

I still read now. Late at night, when the voices in my head are too loud and I just can’t take it anymore, I pick up a book and drown them out with stories, until I’m lost in another world and far, far away from reality.

Now I’m the one behind the pen, writing stories in hope that someday, they’d inspire someone else someday. That maybe, one day, the stories I’ll write will bring someone as much comfort and protection as my favorite books brought me.

Because really, that’s my mission as a writer.

And I can’t wait to see where it takes me <3

Eeee I just loved that! As a reader myself, books are amazing and what Kiran said has just convinced me that that is 100% true.

As I said before, here is her email list, so that you can see more of her writing, as well as getting to see what I wrote for her email list!

Anddd that is it for this email! Happy New Year, everyone! I hope you all have an amazing 2024, and I am definitely praying for you all through it.

Next month, I think I'll write down some of my goals for 2024! And of course, I will make the bread this month and give you all a photo.

Thank you so much for reading!
